In my financial network an interesting story was told. A woman was going to surprise her husband by secretly paying off debt. On the surface, this seems like a lovely surprise. But something just doesn't feel right about it.

What's the last secret you kept?
What's the last secret you kept?

If you flip the script and woman was secretly putting money away for a dream vacation on a Caribbean cruise, that sounds great too. And then you realize the husband has a great fear of water and boats. Now it just doesn't feel right again.

The secrecy is the problem. Let's call it what it is-- Financial Infidelity. Have you ever stopped to consider that these "little" money secrets could be eroding away at your relationship?

One of the first financial infidelity stories I heard was about the purchase of a pure bred puppy. The actual cost to the breeder was $600. Not a terribly high price, but the spouse was told that the cost was $400. It's just $200, he won't care or notice, was the rational. Then why not just be honest?

That secret credit card that is used to make secret purchases. The secret bank account for a secret rainy day fund. The extra income that never made it to the budget.*

Open communication about money, combined bank accounts, regular financial meetings and dream dates are all tools to have and maintain a solid relationship. Money touches every area of life. If you are winning with money, you are winning. Period.

Do you have financial goals set for 2025? There is still time to make real progress. Set up a call with me, Angela Smith, today and let's get your goals written down, and start working towards making your dreams a reality. https://calendly.com/smithfc1210/consultation

* There are always exceptions, mental health and addictions are a couple of the more common ones that could require special handling.
