God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. - 1 Peter 4:10

I was a very shy child. I would sit on the property line and wait for my best friend to invite me over because I was not brave enough to go up to the house and knock on the door. It was a story that my bestie loved to tell. For kindergarten, her mom would give us both a ride and I would wait anxiously, watching the clock, my little tummy all knotted up and nervous. Every. Single. Day. I was so scared. Thank God for my best friend, she really helped me through those early years.

I always felt so awkward. I was chubby. I had crooked teeth. I wore thick glasses. I was the opposite of popular. I learned to be extremely independent.

Eventually, I grew up. I lost quite a few pounds. I got my teeth straightened. I had laser eye surgery. I learned to be more outgoing, shyness was preventing me from trying and enjoying many things. I'm continuing to learn that I can depend on others. I've never forgotten my beginnings, it helped mold me into the person I am today. I still get scared sometimes, but I'm willing to do things scared (and it's never as bad as I think it's going to be).

I became a person who goes after what she wants. Who takes calculated risks. Who strives for improvement in all areas of her life. Who is stepping into her God given gifts and serving others powerfully.
